March 2001

Our wedding was a wonderful day, all the hard work I put into organizing it paid off and the whole day ran without a hitch. Some of the days running up to the wedding were a bit fraught but then aren't all weddings? I haven't met anyone yet who has had a total hassle free wedding. Frosty took the view that it was the woman's job to organize the wedding saying it was traditional, I wasn't convinced for one moment and set him three jobs to do. To organize his and the men's suits, to arrange for the alcohol seeing that beer is his first love and to get a photographer. Ten days before the wedding we had no photographer, no beer and no suits! Mawf dragged him to the tailors, Sunny organized the alcohol for us and the church helped to find a photographer so we are lucky to have any photographs and those of you who came you were lucky to get your beer, if we had left it to Frosty we would all have been on the water!

We had our hen and stag nights only 2 days before the wedding. This was not my first choice knowing how long Frosty takes to recover from a hangover these days but we wanted to wait until most people had arrived so we could party with them. My hen night started out very quietly, I had vowed I was going to be a bore and come home at midnight because I was so tired already, couldn't face the thought of spending Friday doing all the last things with a hangover and then looking dreadful on Saturday.

About 10 of us girlies went to Senior Picos for a Mexican meal, we consumed a few margaritas but not too many, then we went to a salsa club but this turned out to be quite a boring place. We were ready to call it a day when it all went pear shaped. We all had our next day hangovers to blame on Claire who turned up and made us consume tequila and dragged us off to PatPong to see Tom Jones. In a bar in the Pong there is a Thai version of Tom Jones and he's very good at impersonating old Tom, right down to the leather pants. It is an understatement to say that Claire is a bit of a fan of Tom. A few more tequilas later and Claire arranged that I had to go on stage and sing with Tom. How embarrassing in front of all those tourists, the place is always packed and you couldn't get away with trying to hide. There are photos of me belting out sex bomb with Tom but I haven't seen them. I haven't seen any of the hen night pics as most of us stupidly forgot to bring our cameras but there are some lurking around in Liverpool and if I get sent any I will post them up later. The night didn't end there, we went to another bar where some strange but generous bloke bought our party a bottle of……..tequila…..no wonder we didn't feel too bright the next day.

Frosty had his stag night on a boat on the river. I can't really write much about that because you know boys they stick together and are saying nothing. He did come home with makeup on and his t-shirt read in Thai 'I love ladyboys'.

I sent Frosty off to stay in the Sukhothai the night before with Andy. Surprisingly they didn't get to drunk and turned up at the church on time the next morning. I spent the night at home doing last minute things with Pun and Marita my bridesmaids. We were all up bright and early as Cat came round to do my makeup and Stephane came round later to do our hair. He was making such a good job of it that I was still sat in my nightie at 10.45am and I was supposed to be at the church at eleven. A very quick change and no time for the stiff gin and tonic I had planned on drinking, and my dad and I made a quick dash, if that's possible in Bangkok traffic to the church. For once there were no big traffic jams and I arrived only 10 minutes late which is what a bride is supposed to do anyway aren't they?

We got married at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Soi Ruam Rudee in Bangkok, the weather was hot and quite sunny, the church was breezy and everyone managed not to get too hot and bothered in the non-air conditioned church. The ushers, Anthony, Andy and Squeaky did a great job organizing everyone before I got there. My dad walked me up the aisle. This was the part I had really been looking forward to all the time I had been planning the wedding. In reality it was the bit I liked the least, it was so nerve racking! Don't ask me why, I have no idea. We had quite a traditional ceremony and there was a mass too.

Mark Reinecke and Marita my chief bridesmaid read some lovely readings for us and the organist lady sang beautifully. The hymn we chose was Amazing Grace. Mawf was Mike's best man and he did a great job getting Frosty organized and helping with the transport. He still made sure he had his two essential items he never travels anywhere without to hand in the church, his mobile and his fags, they can be seen in the photo section lurking near the altar!

No rings were lost or vows forgotten but I did forget to sign my married name when we signed the registry and signed Lisa Bartholomew! The church had arranged for everyone to throw rose petals instead of confetti and this was a lovely touch as we made our way back down the aisle. It doesn't matter where you are though, everyone still aimed at getting as many petals down my top as they could. Squeaky did a fantastic job organizing everyone for the photographs and then we took Frosty's car to the Sukhothai Hotel for the reception.

We had an afternoon reception in the ballroom, drinks were followed by a western sit down meal. The place looked great and I hope you all took home the little souvenir elephants to remind you of Thailand. We had a three course meal followed by the speeches. My poor dad was pretty nervous and managed to get through his speech and was, I think glad to get it over with and then he could start on the beer for real! Frosty was pretty calm and delivered his speech with only a few references to the bird instead of the wife. Mr. Mawf, the best man was a star performer when it came to his speech. Having dug around a bit and knowing us for quite a few years now, he revealed a few embarrassing moments for both of us and provided everyone with such a good laugh, that there were tears coming down my mum's face at one point. We didn't get any telegrams, I think they are out of fashion now but we did get some emails. One was from the guys at EPL inviting us over to sunny Bangladesh for our honeymoon!

We had a couple of hours break in the afternoon before the evening party. I tried to go for a lie down but it wasn't very successful as there was an Abba concert rehearsal in the courtyard blasting away and I was trying not to mess my hair up! Frosty retired to the pool with a few people for more beers. The evening party was really fun. The hotel had changed the ballroom to have a dance floor and had set up a great buffet. After most people had arrived we started the evening by having more toasts, cutting the chocolate wedding cake, throwing the bouquet which Gift caught surprise, surprise. I think she had been in training for it for the past few months and then we had the first dance to Ronin Keating - You say nothing at all. Then the disco with Paul Jackson started for real and there were some real groovers amongst the guests, notably Henry and Kelly.

Sometime during the evening Mawf and his gang managed to get into our lovely suite and provide us with many surprises when we eventually got to bed in the early hours. The cornflakes in the pillows weren't too hard to remove but the clingfilm covering the toilets certainly got Frosty when he went in there in the dark. Needing to wash his hands after that surprise things got worse when he turned on the taps to discover they were too covered in clingfilm, all the soap was wrapped in condoms and the towels covered in talcum powder! The alarm clock that was hidden which went off about 5 am was not funny at the time!, neither was the shaving foam I got in my ear the next morning when I went to use the phone. The artistic talents of the gang didn't go unnoticed and we are thinking of hiring the artist who drew the picture in lipstick near the wardrobe. I did take some photos on a disposable camera but I haven't had any of the disposable cameras developed yet, will save them for next time.

Everyone looked like they had a great time, we have a cheesy video to remind us and lots of great photos, a selection which you can see in the photo section.
