March 2002

Hi all !

Thought i would get an update done before we head off to Australia for a week. We haven't been back since we left so it will be good to catch up with everyone we got to know when we lived there.

Just after the last update we had our first wedding anniversary. True to Frosty style there was no romance, actually Frosty wasn't even here for it! We had to celebrate our wedding anniversary a day early as Frosty went to Hong Kong with Mawf early in the morning of the 27th for a meeting. We did have a very nice meal though the night before at the New York Steak House in Bangkok. An excellent restaurant that I would recommend and the white chocolate icecream was to die for. The waiter nearly took someone's eye out with our champagne cork but apart from that a very pleasant meal and a chance to reminisce about the past year and being together in general and another chance to bring up the time Frosty bought me a frying pan for Valentines day. Finished off the night at the Qbar with Mawf and Ron before heading home and forcing Frosty to pack his case for his trip.

After the wedding last year we got news that Pete and Les who came over from the UK for the wedding were expecting a baby and just before our wedding anniversary Les had a lovely baby boy, so congratulations to all of them. If you are feeling broody do not look at the picture of Tom in the photo section as it is one of the cutest baby photos I have seen in a while. I wonder if he will develop a hairy chest like his dad? Check out doctor Pete and proud dad in the photo section too.

February was less hectic than January when both Frosty and I had to make trips abroad to acquire new visas. I went to Singapore for a few days by myself which I don't mind at all as I can spend hours in the shops and Frosty went to Hong Kong with Mawf.
We had a great time at James and Natalie Osbournes Party one night in February. What a great house and garden and a great place to throw a party and we caught up with a few people that we hadn't seen for months. Unfortunately we didn't take any photos even though I had my camera, must have been chewing peoples ears off all night as I forgot to take some snaps, oh well next time! We also went to the American Chamber of Commerce Ball, which I have to say was the most boring ball that I have ever been too! The food was mediocre, and the music pretty bad and everyone left bar Frosty, Anthony, Maria and me by 12 o'clock so we continued our own party down the Qbar before going home.

This update in the photos section we introduce our new neighbour Ron, who has moved into my old office actually. Ron will probably hate the picture of himself on the site, but until he invites us over for another barbecue I don't have any more. In Qbar you need to be quick to see Ron as he is always getting jiggy withit and has also be spotted from our balcony staggering home trying every house entrance till he found his own. We hope to have more updates of Ron for you in the coming year!

A couple of weekends ago Mawf, Frosty and I went to Koh Chang for a long weekend. Koh Chang was interesting to say the least! We drove down to Trat in the land cruiser and I subjected them both to a David Essex CD which I cleverly sneaked into the car inside the box of wine, champagne and a bottle of knob. (well I knew they would never leave that behind) We got the car ferry over to Koh Chang which was quite pleasant, though I think it may have been at this point when we got all the backpackers backs up when we drove on in the landcruiser filled with fluffy white pillows, champagne, books galore, music, laptop computers and mobile phones. Spent three days on the island, didn't do much apart from sunbathe and eat and drive around. I was disappointed with the beaches, I thought they would have been more beautiful than they were. The middle of the island though looked quite stunning with all the large trees and jungles. I was also surprised to find it a rather unfriendly place, no one wanted to talk to us and the Thai food was not particular great. The only place we found which was good to eat was a seafood restaurant in a small fishing village which we all agreed did excellent seafood and the guy who worked there was extra friendly. His mum promised to make us shrimp cakes so we went back the next night too. The poor guy even walked us back to our car to fend off a ferocious dog who tried to bite Mawf on the way in. To save Mr Mawf's and Frosty's honour I told him that it was me that was scared but really we all were and you have never seen 3 people pile into a car as fast as we did that night leaving the restaurant owner to fend off the little beast! He seemed happy enough when we left him our bottle of Jonney Walker and probably had a few elaborate tales to tell his mates that night about these three mad farangs. There wasn't too much nightlife in the island, though driving around on the narrow dirt road we did find one bar to hang out. Jah Bah, a place full of hammocks, where everyone sat on the floor and the staff were completely stoned. This was quite a chilled out place as you can imagine, but an effort to get a drink as the staff were on another planet.

I celebrated my birthday as we drove back from Koh Chang, well we celebrated in style the night before with loads of deep fried icecream and champagne. Frosty was actually organised and had presents for me to open when i woke up which was a nice surprise. I think the curry recipe book had an ulterior motive behind it though. Sean had just come in from Hong Kong so we met up with him as soon as we got back and went for an Indian meal and totally stuffed ourselves as usual.

In between interviews and meetings Frosty has been keeping busy with a few other investment projects, playing space invaders on his palm pilot and watching videos of Red Dwarf and Miami vice. Last weekend he disappeared round to Mawf's to play virtual cop and the two of them spent hours shooting at the tv screen. Boys just never grow up do they!
