August 2004 Hi all, The weekend of June the 6th was Joe's christening. We finally got round to having him baptised. Not really our fault it took so long. Trying to get a Sunday free when both godparents could make it was a major feat and we had to plan 6 months in advance! It was a lovely weekend because we haven't seen Mawf, Amy, Karen and Mark for such a long time so it was great to spend time with them. We had lunches and dinners and Joe got spoilt with lots of presents and lots of playtime with uncle Mawf and Amy. Uncle Mawf became rather attached to Rory, Joe's technicolour tiger, and we had to make sure that Rory did not bunk off to Bangkok on an extended holiday. Rory now has a distant cousin back in Bangkok called Moo Moo. Mark and Karen couldn't make a trip complete to Singapore without visiting IKEA and came laden down to lunch with all their purchases as well as packages for Joe from Okonjima and Carole. The christening took place on the Sunday afternoon at
4 pm. The timing was a bit of a shame really because it meant that the
gang from Bangkok had to shoot off straight after the service to catch
the last planes home. It was a miracle that our car actually made it to
the christening as the boot was weighed down with Mawfs suitcases bulging
with cans and cans of boddingtons. He now has a suitcase just for this
purpose. There were 8 children being baptised so it was a bit chaotic
but on the whole they were all very well behaved. The Priest was a miserable
bugger but we all had a good time. Mark kindly manned out video recorder
and took some footage of the whole event. It begins walking down the aisle
with a big close up of Mawfys baldy patch which gets a nice little pat
and the rest of the video shows Joe constantly eating cherrios and jellytots!
Joe got a right dunking at the font and was not that impressed with it
all. Joe's nana decided to come out for the christening and have another holiday to spend time with him. Nana's visits are always great because it means that Frosty and I get a Sunday roast dinner cooked for us with Yorkshire puddings and everything. (Being such a bad wife I hardly ever cook a roast and am surprised I haven't been divorced for this yet!) We had to ban her from making or buying cakes and ice-cream because we always put a ton of weight on when my mum comes as she never comes back from the supermarket empty handed. As we have done the zoo and Sentosa to death recently we went to the Bird Park and the East Coast Parkway instead. Joe loves birds so he loved watching the bird show at Jurong and we took his bike to the ECP as he doesn't get to use it very often. We also showed nana the joys of going to gymboree and we went swimming with Ginny and Josh at the British Club one day too. Ant has made his usual monthly visits to Singapore on business and stayed at chez Frosty as usual. Joe is always glad to see him as he is strong enough to throw him around a lot and wishes he didn't have to go to work so early. Neil and Gee have now left Singapore and moved to Egypt. Joe will miss his Aunty Gee who always spoiled him rotten when she saw him. This month also saw the arrival of Rachel, Mrs Baker, so no doubt you will soon be seeing photos of her on the website. Hope your all having a lovely summer what ever you are up to. Birdie x x x
